  GOWRIE - Oda V. Anderson, 96, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023, at Friendship Haven, surrounded by her loving family. 

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, July 31, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis officiating.  A visitation will precede the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Gowrie Township Cemetery.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Pam Anderson of Apple Valley, MN; Barry Anderson of Bettendorf, IA, Terry (Sandy) Anderson of Muscatine, IA, Shawn (JoAnn) Anderson of Gowrie, IA, and Darin (Beth Ann) Anderson of Eldridge, IA; Grandchidren Troy (Alexzandra) Anderson, Teresa Anderson, David Anderson, Michelle Anderson, Aaron (Anna and daughter Lily) Anderson, Christopher (Caitlin) Anderson, Amanda (Lane) Sether, Nicholas Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Brett Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Nathan Anderson; great-grandchildren William Anderson, Abbigail Anderson, Brooke Anderson, Addison Anderson, and Clint Sether.

Oda was preceded in death by her spouse of 69 years, Duane R. Anderson, parents Walter and Kamma Scherff, son Steven Anderson, and siblings Ethel Scherff, Mary Porter, Ray Scherff, Helen Scherff, Edith Scherff, Bob Scherff, and Don Scherff.

Oda Viola Scherff was born on March 17, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Walter and Kamma Scherff. She was raised by Mrs. Andrew (Jennie) Paulson of Fort Dodge.  Oda graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1945.  She married Duane R. Anderson on April 29, 1945.  They made their residence in Gowrie where Oda was a homemaker and child care provider.  Oda was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie, and was a 50+ year member of Peterson Post 431 auxiliary in Gowrie.

Oda loved the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, bird-watching, traveling and visiting casinos. Her smile and positive approach to life were infectious to all those that she talked with.
