From: Jolley, IA

Jolley – Devin D. Landgraf 35, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023.  Memorial Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Father Brian Feller officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial.  Burial of ashes will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Landgraf Girls College Fund at the United Bank of Iowa, Rockwell City.  Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family.

Devin Drew Landgraf was born to John & Joyce (Mernin) Landgraf on October 2, 1988, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He spent the first four years of his life growing up on a farm south of Early; where he earned the title “bubble-wrap boy” due to his active nature, resulting in countless bumps, bruises, and to his parent’s dismay, ER visits for stitches. His family then moved to the family farm East of Storm Lake, where he learned the ropes of the farm and honed his basketball talents in the gravel driveway. He attended St. Mary’s School in Storm Lake and graduated in 2007 as one of the Mighty 10. Devin received a basketball scholarship, and attended Morningside College in Sioux City; where he received a business degree in 2011.

He started a promising career path, and was employed by United Bank of Iowa, Availa Bank, and Citizen’s 1st National Bank.

In 2014, he married his true love Bailey Dettmann of Rockwell City; after she had caught his eye at a basketball game. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Darby (5) and Perri (3). Devin’s family was his heart, and he adored his three girls.

His favorite pastimes included spending time with them and working to build their dream acreage outside of Jolley. He was also the Iowa State Cyclones #1 fan; as well as a Timberwolves and Brock Purdy 49’ers fan. Family gatherings were a top priority for him, and his hobbies included golfing with his brothers, cousins, or buddies; helping with the family Clydesdales, farming, and boating any chance he got. He was always willing to help anyone with anything, always had a smile on his face, and had an infectious laugh that could be heard from anywhere.

Survivors include his wife Bailey, daughters Darby and Perri, parents John & Joyce Landgraf of Storm Lake, siblings Nick (Tanya) Landgraf of Newell, Lindsay (Tom) Ries of Monticello, Trevor Landgraf of Storm Lake, his grandmother Dorothy Mernin of Storm Lake, parents-in-law Curt & Barb Dettmann of Rockwell City, sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Tyler) Friesth of Fort Dodge, and Savana Dettmann of Rockwell City, 6 nieces, 4 nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him very much, and will miss him deeply.

“Dear Landgraf family,

I'm so sorry and devastated to hear about this tragedy. I lost touch with Devin after highschool but I'll never forget how kind he was to me while growing up- sitting with me on the bus, taking me to prom, hosting bonfires, driving me home after I stayed out last curfew. He was one of the students at St Mary's I remember most fondly.

I'm so deeply sorry he's not with his loved ones any more on earth. I pray he is resting in peace and power, and that his girls grow up learning about the great person he was to those around him.

With light,
Angela
